What is IMPACT?

In 2008, UAB Hospital implemented Cerner Millennium for Inpatient areas. This project was called IMPACT, which means Improved Methods of Patient Information Access of Core Clinical Tasks. IMPACT allows patient information to be entered into an Electronic Health Record (EHR), which can be viewed across the Hospital in real-time. The system has helped Providers, Clinical Staff, and Administrative Staff improve many day-to-day processes. Transitioning to an EHR has allowed information to be securely shared electronically across UAB Hospital.

In order to enhance patient care and services, maximize efficiency, and increase communication across the UAB Health System, UAB also implemented Cerner Millennium through the IMPACT Ambulatory EHR Project in most UAB Health System Ambulatory Clinics in 2011. This implementation has provided UAB Hospital and Ambulatory Clinic Physicians, Clinical, and Administrative Staff the ability to view up-to-date current patient records containing information from both Hospital admissions and Clinic visits. This level of cohesiveness allows us to better serve our patients in a timely, efficient, and effective manner.

UAB Medicine will continue to work hard to provide the very best in healthcare technology to our patients, providers, and medical staff.
